A while ago we realized that we would be without transport for part of our stay here in Australia. We looked into rentals or buying a 2nd hand car and also sent out an email to everyone we knew here in Australia to let them know what we were looking for.
We had an immediate reply from a Perth couple who at the time were staying in our home in Spain as the guests of our exchangers. They were happy to loan us their campervan in return for having such a great experience in Spain.
Home exchanging is about connecting with people, enjoying a shared passion for travel and living a in a more creative way. Don’t get me wrong; there is a massive financial incentive, but there is so much more to it than saving money if you have an open mind.
We totally fell in love with Ivan the campervan; he has tons of personality and style. When he backfired his way up the hills near Bridgetown I thought we were under gunfire. Once I parallel parked him so perfectly and so very slowly that passerby’s applauded.

Hi Gal’s and Guy’s,
The internationally acclaimed Monster Children Magazine has posted a blog on their website about SSHX.
Check out Monster Children Website.
Yet another like minded crew who believe in our crazy idea.
When Australian surfer, Dan Ross was presented with his check from a semi final finish at the O’Neill world cup of surfing, he refused to sign his name. He seized the marshall’s pen and scribbled in the name of Pancho Sullivan.
Having spent the year chasing the WQS sans a major sponsor, Dan could be forgiven for skipping shouts and bringing two longnecks (tallies, big boys, 40 oz) to a house party. And yet after placing fourth in his Sunset semi final he donated all his winnings, some $US 2900, to the cause of Hawaiian surfer Pancho Sullivan’s daughter, Kehau, whose impending heart operations are expected to send the North Shore legend bankrupt. More astonishing is he doesn’t even know the guy that well. We asked him what prompted his decision and what sort of financial situation it has left him in.
Everyone knows how one single act of kindness can change a situation. We hope that if you can give a little $$$$$$ then please click through to
HIT HERE TO DONATE TO THE SULLIVAN"S CAUSE and give what you can.
As everyone would know Mick Fanning clenched his 2nd World Title yesterday in Hawaii. In what was a real high tension situation it was Mick’s good mate and fellow world title contender Joel Parkinson who gave Mick his 2nd title. The deal was who ever finished in front of each other at the end of the Billabong Pipeline Masters would be crowned champ for 09. So when Gavin Gillet from Kauai found a nice 9 point ride and put Parko behind the 8 ball in their round 3 heat with 5 minutes to go it was mother nature who sealed the deal for Mick and pretty much handed him the title. The ocean just went flat, but with 30 seconds remaining a lump popped up on 1st reef and Joel took it and fell from the sky to have a classic pipe wipeout.
To add to the drama Mick was in the water waiting to surf his round 4 heat against Dean Morrison when Joel was needing his score.
We take our hats off to Parko for being an AMAZINGLY good competitor and sport about the situation. Joel was the 1st guy to congratulate Mick on his win and chaired him up the beach after the heat.
WELL DONE MICK ON YOUR 2009 ASP WORLD TITLE……YOU RIP.

Surf Snow House X-Change’s Global Ambassador Dan Ross has just won the ASP WORLD QUALIFYING SERIES for 2009 in spectacular form at Sunset Beach Hawaii, Dan has surfed his way to the quarter finals in MASSIVE waves. Whilst competition is over for the day it was Dan who excelled in the 15 foot waves to comfortably advance with Mick Fanning in their round of 32 heat.
Three other competitors could have caught Dan had they advanced out of their heats. Adam Melling from Lennox Head fell short in the testing conditions but was ripping, Pat Guadaskas let his brother through who needed to advance to qualify and Brett Simpson got lost at sea pretty.
At the time of writing this article Dan was off to Lei Lei’s for dinner to celebrate his win and then back to bed for an anticipated start of the contest tomorrow morning.
All of us here at Surf Snow House X-Change would like to say congrats to Dan on his win, 10 WQS contest’s all year, 7 contest’s counted, 2 win’s to date for 09 and the highest point’s total combined.
Hi All, Mick Fanning is a name a lot of surfers are talking about at the moment. He’s come from behind to be sitting in pole position going into the final contest of the year in Hawaii. If he wins the world title it will be an enormous effort by the well traveled ripper. Mick has written a blog about Surf Snow House X-Change on his website mickfanning.com.au. He thinks its a good idea.

Well, I’m back home and loving every second of it. One of the things that’s easy to take for granted for someone in my position is all the travel I get to do. A bunch of my friends and probably a lot of you reading this don’t have the money to do trips overseas or even domestically. A former pro surfer and a good mate Navrin Fox may have come up with the solution for you that could eliminate the costs involved when looking for good accommodation on the road. Nav and his wife Jacinta have created a company called Surf Snow House Exchange. They believe house exchanging is a great way to travel and experience a new location like a local and I reckon they’re onto something. Do yourself a favour and check their site surfsnowhousexchange.com
You’ll find the answers to any questions about house exchanging there. You can also look into registering your property with them. Hope this helps some of you take a long overdue snow or surf trip. Woo! MF
SSHX Global Ambassador Dan Ross is still sitting on top of the Men’s World Qualifying Series. For the last 3 months Dan has known that he is already qualified for next years new and improved MENS WORLD SURFING TOUR. We are proud to be able to support Dan in his quest for a Men’s World Qualifying Series Titile this year and also next year for a World Surfing Tiitle. Dan will be competing against Joel Parkinson, Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning to name a few. Keep a look out for him in anyway and support the kid he rips.
Dan has just finished travelling through Europe and is on his way to Peru as I write. he is over in South America sussing some secret left points that from all account break for over 300 to 400 metres. With grinding pits.
Dan’s role as Global Ambassador for SSHX is to find houses in these far away places he visits.
