House & Location description: This is our luxurious mountain retreat with world class skiing and snow boarding in the winter and some exciting outdoor sports, such as downhill mountain biking in the summer. Only a 5 minute walk to the ski lifts on a quiet culdesac in the best neighborhood and a 2 minute drive to the town of Mammoth Lakes for shops and restaurants. The mountain views from the house are stunning and are almost as good for the soul as a run on fresh powder.
Mountain Terrain in the area: Mammoth mountain (mammothmountain.com) gets heaps of snow (over 400") and its high (11,000ft at the top) elevation means a long season with great dry snow and over 300 sunny days a year. With 28 lifts and 150 trails you never have to ski the same runs over and over, plus there are 7 terrain parks and 3 pipes. In summer the ski lifts change over to bike lifts. There is nothing quite like taking your bike up on the chair lift and hurtling down the different levels of runs with or without obstacles and doing it all over again. There is also hiking and fishing and it is a good spot for exploring more of California as it is only 100 miles into Yosemite Valley and only 1 hour to the Eastern entrance of Yosemite, 2 hours drive to Reno, Nevada, a 5 1/2 hour drive to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Property Features:
Owner profile: We are retired professionals (a physicist and a medical doctor), non smokers who enjoy life, love to travel, ski and surf. As there will only be the 2 of us traveling we would prefer to exchange with a couple rather than a family. We have homes in Spain, California and the Caribbean so can be pretty flexible on dates and would consider exchanges of 1-3 months. We have home exchanged half a dozen times before and have had great experiences.
Preferred Swap Dates: We would like a warm surf spot in the northern hemisphere winter i.e. Nov 2010 to April 2011.
Preferred swap locations: Surf, we are learning so small surf is fine for us, we are not ready for riding giants yet.
