House & Location description: Our 3 bedroom, 3 bath home is located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Hanover offers a unique combination of urban cultural sophistication and a traditional New England village atmosphere. Natural beauty and recreation opportunities abound. We are surrounded by hiking and biking trails, rivers and lakes for water recreation. The famous Appalacian Trail is less than 1/2 mile from our home. Hanover is 2 hours from Boston, 4 from New York City and 2 1/2 hours to Montreal, Canada. The New Hampshire seacost is 1 1/2 hours away. Southern Maine with it's beautiful rocky coast is less than 2 hours from our home. Killington/Pico Mountain, Mt Sunapee, Dartmouth Skiway, Jay Peak, Burke Mountain are a few of the ski areas that are within driving distance from our home. Snowshoeing and cross country ski trails are in our back yard. Our home is located 6 miles from downtown Hanover. Wonderful outdoor spaces including a large deck which overlooks a meditation garden and a screened in porch for eating, sleeping or just relaxing. There are three bedrooms, 2 with double beds and 1 with a queen. There is a den with a pull out queen sleeper. 3 newly renovated tiled baths, one with a large jacuzzi tub. Our home is surrounded by gardens, large pines and woodland trails. It is a very quiet and peaceful place. Bikes, kayaks and a canoe are available. Use of our 4 wheel drive vehicle is negotiable. Hanover is the home of Dartmouth College an Ivy League New England university. Downtown is filled with wonderful shops, book stores, cafes, shopping, the Hood Museum of Art, The Hopkins Center for Performing Arts, Art Galleries, a cinema and restaurants - one of which is our own (Lou's Restaurant & Bakery) The food choices are many - Thai, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Irish Pub and of course, traditional New England Fare. During the Summer months there are many farmer's markets to be explored. The area has become known for producing wonderful cheeses and artisan breads. There is a wonderful recreation area with a heated pool, a large pond, canoe and kayak rentals, basketball courts, tennis courts, camping sites, biking and hiking trails. Storrs Pond is a great place to spend a summer day. Our home sits alongside the famous Appalacian Trail. There is nothing quite like a day hike on the AT. It is filled with moss, ferns, streams, wildflowers and wildlife. A short walk to the end of our road brings you to a small farm with friendly horses, cows and chickens. Ski areas are within driving distance from our home both in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Owner profile: A bit about our family....Toby started out as an Industrial Engineer. Growing up in Vienna, Austria gave Toby a taste for fine pastries. Forever in search of the perfect Schneken, Toby left engineering to study culinary and pastry arts. 17 years ago we bought a restaurant & bakery and haven't looked back since. Toby and I work together at the restaurant. We have two children. Our son Daniel (20) attends Oregon State University. We miss him terribly but his sister loves having the upstairs all to herself. Our daughter Rachel is 13. Rachel loves to dance, dance and dance, she is in the 7th grade and keeps us laughing with her dry wit. She loves working along side her Dad in the bakery at the restaurant. Our kitty, Teeter is 6 years old and will be home while we are away. Care can be arranged if need be. Teeter is an indoor cat. We also have a 10 month old puppy named Gunther (as of Feb 2010). He is hyper hyper hyper and would be boarded while we are away. We LOVE to travel and have been blessed with many opportunities to see Europe, Canada and of course the United States.
Preferred Swap Dates: 2nd week of February, 3rd week of March (non simultaneous), 3rd week of April, late June - August.
Preferred swap locations: We love to travel and are open to any potential exchanges. Ideally we would like to travel to the warm climates in February and March. It is absolutely beautiful here during the summer months.
