North Stradbroke is an iconic Australian island that has no street lights and a small population of friendly locals yet has excellent services. Our home is in an elevated position in a quiet, residential, cul-dul-sac with great neighbors (we are the youngest residents on our block). It is currently a 3 bedroom one bath, fully furnished and equipped home located 800 m from the ocean, although it is a steep climb up and down a car is recommended. A bush trail through the semi-tropic rainforest to the beach which is 'as the crow flies' closer to the surf and is connect to a large number of bush trails that extend across the island. Bede Durbidge (pro surfer) has a home here which speaks to the surf; its not uncommon to be sharing a surf session in warm pristine waters with whales, dolphins, turtles, rays, sharks, and only one other surfer out. Normally the local surf crew is about 10 - 20 people when its good. However, during holiday periods the place blows out with tourists but you can drive down the 45 Km beach and score some waves. The island is located between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine coast and only a hour from the Capital city of Brisbane, so going to the mainland for some city time or tourism is easy.
Beaches in the area: Main Beach, Deadmans Beach, Cylinder beach (right hand point), Frenchmans beach. Also, has fishing, and freshwater lakes as well. Whale watching from the headland.

Owner profile: I am a surfer, and my wife likes to travel. We are very respectful and quiet, clean people that treat others the way we like to be treated. We like all animals and would be willing to look after your pets and house plants.

Preferred swap locations: Where there is good surf, warm water, low crowds, within walking distance. A nice home is required; not interested in battling mozzies & rats or dealing with rowdy loud neighbors. Local food outlets / resteraunts are a bonus. Note that any places with high crime we are not interested in (e.g. South Africa).
